Darn it none of the Banties show signs at all!! One hatched at home among the broodies and Red the RIR STOLE it from the momma!

I've been a member for awhile, but usually sit back and read a lot from everyone; but, your post got me going - thanks for that! By the way, fantastic pics. My classroom chicks hatched right after spring break this year - I took 8 home; 5 of my own and the farmer gave me 3 of hers. Now I have 16 loveable "babies" from my 3 years of classroom chickens. Love the little fuzzy butts. I teach mild/moderate/severe special needs kids and it's great to hear them explain to regular ed. kids how the chicks hatch along with all the particulars like that it takes 21 days and that you can hear the chicks peeping inside the eggs!! And, of course, just like my kids I have some special needs chickens; one of which is my 2 year old rooster Fiesty and the other is Freckles a one year old hen who needed physical therapy on her right leg because it was stetched out above her head while she was in the shell. So much about my stuff - can't wait to read more about your class adventures and see more pics!!

I'm so glad to hear how you are teaching in your classroom! Isn't wonderful to see the looks on their faces? Our special needs class just came through to see the chicks, they loved them! I use to teach the life cycle, compassion, to get the kids to connect with what life is all about. I had a special needs rooster who broke his neck as a chick, he was stolen about 3 months ago.

Ahhh yes,, a cute class of little ones just came through to see the babies,, and I got the age old question: "Do you have to have a rooster to lay eggs??" No sweetie you don't,,, ooopss,,, don't call fellow teachers sweetie!

LOL Thanks! We've had a blast as usual. The art teacher has bought several chickens and ducks from me and she's going to buy a few of these to help fund the end of the activities for our classroom. We do fun stuff like make tie-dyed t-shirts and we need shirts and dye. So this way they learn science and earn the money to pay for their party and stuff.
