Fleetstar climbed onto the Highledge and called out, "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Highledge!" He watched as all the cats filed out of their dens and settled into a half - circle about the Highledge. "it is time for one of the most important ceremonies a clan leader can hold - an apprenticeship ceremony. Sunkit, please step forward."

"M-m-me??" Sunkit thought as she approached the Highledge.

"Sunkit, from now until you recieve your warrior name, you will be Sunpaw." Fleetstar touched his nose to her forehead.
"Sunpaw! Sunpaw!" the other cats cheered. Once they quieted down, Fleetstar raised his head and said, "Everheart, please step forward."

"You will be Sunpaw's mentor. You are a loyal and trustworthy cat, and I trust that you will guide and teach Sunpaw well."
"Thank you Fleetstar, I am honored" Everheart nodded her head. Meows of protest arose from the gathered crowd of cats. "Fleetstar, why are you letting her do this?! She's only been part of our clan for 12 moons, surely that's not enough time for her to really be a loyal Thunderclan cat?!" one cat called out. Other cats began yowling against this decision as well. "Silence!" Fleestar called out. "Even though you may consider Everheart not having been part of our clan for long, I believe that she is responsible and a reliable cat." Everheart stood strong under the glare of some of her clanmates. Fleetstar turned to Everheart. "You may begin training Sunpaw if you wish." Everheart nodded her head as Fleetstar began calling out the day's patrols. "I'm glad that Fleetstar has given me a chance. I can't wait to begin training Sunpaw." Everheart thought as she padded towards Sunpaw.

Mountainshine was in the medicine den instructing Dovepaw in how to sort herbs the proper way. All of a sudden, they heard the strong and booming voice of Fleetstar who was calling all of the clan out of their dens to come and hear his news. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Highledge!"They both padded out into the clearing and sat down anticipating Fleetstar's news. Soon enough, he had announced to the clan that Everheart was to be Sunkit's-now Sunpaw's mentor. Mountainshine wasn't sure what to think as she knew that Everheart was once a kittypet and had only been part of the clan for a few moons now. Although some of the other cats were shouting out rude remarks of disbelief, she knew that she should trust Fleetstar's decision. He was the clan leader after all. Anyway, Everheart had proven herself loyal to the Warrior Code and her clan multiple times.

After the ceremony, they padded back into the medicine den and Mountainshine continued where they left off quizzing Dovepaw on her herbs. "What is horstail used for?" Questioned Mountainshine. "Horsetail is chewed to a poultice and applied to wounds. It treats infections and stops bleeding for minor wounds." Answered Dovepaw with a contented expression on her face. "Very good! You learn so quickly!" Her mentor complemented. "Thanks! But... do you have a minute to talk to me really quick?" Said Dovepaw. " Uh, sure..." Mountainshine replied with a concerned tone in her voice. "Do you think it was right of Fleetstar to choose Everheart as Sunkit - I mean Sunpaw's mentor? We all know she hasn't always been a warrior...Though she has proven her loyalty many times. I'm just thinking this because I was a rogue at first and most everybody kept telling me I can't be a real medicine cat since I wasn't born into the clan. I know everbody wasn't that excited about her being a mentor but I guess I was happy because that shows me that I can be a good medicine cat whether or not born into the clan. I just hope everyone can except me when I become a full medicine cat." She said. "Oh Dovepaw!" Said Mountainshine. You are going to be a great medicine cat! You are already progressing! Born into the clan or not I know that you were made for something special. So don't listen when other cats tell you that you can't do your job properly." Said Mountainshine sympathetically. "Thank you Mountainshine! I'll do my best to make you proud!" Said Dovepaw. "Okay enough chit-chat! Now go collect some more chervil root... There should be some near the dirtplace. Come back quickly so I can keep quizzing you!" "Okay!" Dovepaw shouted as she ran out of the den.
