clean a new chick

This little guy took nearly 5 days to hatch from the time he pipped to fully hatched. The problem is, after he hatched he was pulling half the shell with him stuck to his back. We used warm water to remove the shell but he is still matted. Is it safe to use Dawn dish soap to clean him or what solution is best? Sorry it's not the best pic.

I would say if it does not come of with water it would be safest to use dawn dish soap
