Clean up after slaughtering your chickens

Guts in bags to the dump, same day, or frozen till the dump run. Blood just goes on the ground, and sometimes hosed in. Feathers are collected on a old tarp, or left on the ground till it is windy then fluffed to the wind with the lawn mower. Mower seems to distribute them well. I usually do 4-6 at a time.

Most stuff goes into a big trash bag and to the dump. We do at times give offal to dogs, or back to the flock. If I have an appropriate spot I bury it.

We just throw ours in a trash bag and it goes off to the dump. If they are small birds and not much meat and we just take the meat off the breast we take the rest of the birds down into the woods and close to the rail road tracks where the coyotes go and dump it there. They take off with that stuff every time.

Hey, I just noticed that you're from MN!

I was just wondering what people do with and the entrails, blood, feathers, ect. Once you are done slaughtering your chickens?

I wish I could bury everything somewhere, but I live in suburbia and have dogs that would love to dig up guts. Under the killing cone, I lay down pine shavings to soak up the blood, and when everything is done, I compost the bloody shavings and feathers. Feet are dried and fed as dog treats. Entrails and heads get triple bagged and thrown in the trash.

During peak season I kill 2-3 birds at a time, 2-3 times a week so I don't have a huge mess to deal with. Between my 2 dogs, 5 cats and 40 other chickens that hang around the choping block there's not a single scrap left, other than feathers which blow away.
