Clean Water

Only use Metal cans during Winter because of a needed heating base. Get a food grade 5 gallon bucket with lid plus 4 nipples or drinking cups. Cheaper, less cleaning and safer water for birds to drink.

Horizontal nipples, 5 gallon BPA free, food safe bucket & gamma lid from Lowes. For the winter you can use a bird bath heater dropped inside the bucket. I plan on drilling a hole so the plug will come through.

I put my metal water on top of a bed of river rock. Works well, looks nice and keep water clean

I keep mine on top of a cinder block. Seems to work pretty well. When I dump it out at night it only has water in it.

We use a Igloo water cooler with a Brite-Tap nipple dispenser in the summer. In winter a regular galvanized water on a warmer. The Igloo/nipple dispenser works best for keeping the water clean but can't be used with a warmer.

I use a bucket with nipples and when I was in Idaho, put a bucket heater in it for the winter, attached to a thermocube at the oulet. It would only turn on when it was below a certain temperature and kept the water from freezing.
