Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie and need help with cleaning my old used coop that was once infested with mice. What is the best and harmless solution to clean that as well as old chicken poop ( that might infect the new chicks with some diseases). We have pressure washed the coop with plain water. Is there something else we can clean it with?

Thank you for the help! I've enjoyed reading and getting education on some of your post. We bought 4 3 day old chicks and they are almost 3 weeks old. We are planning to put them in the coop when they have adult feather. Can we do it sooner? What is the standard age for them to be in the coop? We live in Northern California and still have temperatures in the 40's in the morning.

You can place them into coop when they are feathered out. Average, 6 weeks, but can differ.
Since you pressure washed the coop,,:thumbsup, you can sanitize it with regular Laundry bleach. That will kill most bacteria, and such. When it dries out, all is sanitized, and no harmful residue.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and :welcome

Howdy, NorCal neighbor!

You can put your chicks out sooner as long as they have a heat source. I put mine out at a little over 2 weeks old. I have a home made mama heating pad, so I didn't have fear of fire hazard. I would have put them out sooner, but I didn't have the big coop ready. Live and learn...

I second the bleach thing. I use a diluted concentration of bleach and water.

Bleaching might ease your mind.
But don't put the chicks in there until the coop is absolutely dry.
Fans and strong sun will help speed the process.

I use 10 parts water, 1 part bleach, the same I used in day care back in the day. And DEF let everything dry.

Thank you all for the quick tips.
After spraying it with bleach, do I need to power wash it again?
