A couple of my chicks had blocked vents. I used damp paper towel to try to wipe it off but it was far too hard so I had to cut off some of the fluff around her butt to free it. Is there a better way to do this? I'm worried a wrong move could injure and stress the chick, thanks in advance

I used a q-tip to apply a small droplet of olive oil to the cleaned vents of the three poopy butt chicks I had. It worked! I had never tried it before. I went ahead and oiled all of the other 22 chicks after that. No poopy feathers and no blocked vents. Didn't even have to reapply.

I held my little chick with her bottom sitting in a nice warm water bath in a tiny chick size bowl. (Meaning, it was a small bowl that allowed her to sit/squat in the bowl comfortably. I still held held as she relaxed.) Then after a bit I would remove her, wipe her bottom, and let her sit again. When the water started to chill, I replaced the water with clean, warm water. It worked great!
