I've been tossing these terms around and suddenly realized that I don't really know what they mean.

So, what are the definitions of these terms?

I candled my eggs at day 17 and several of them were very bright (these are BCM eggs) with just a small dark area. Would those be "clears"?

Last hatch, one egg didn't hatch and when I opened it there was a small chick formed. Was that a "quitter"?

What's a "dud"?

I don't want to sound ignorant anymore, so I need some help to understand these terms!

Clears are the ones that never start
Quiters are ones that start then stop at some point.

A dud... well I guess thats a clear nonstarter as well.

She is correct. Clears and duds are usually non fertile or have been knocked around to much with shipping to have development if they were fertile.

Quitters are fertile eggs that something has gone wrong inside the egg to stop development.
