Seen that somewhere, perfect for just about any candies. (rounded ones or saucer shaped are the best to use).
Now with that "controlled amount", my fingers would not digging it out so I would have to bring the feeder to my mouth and tilt it to get a mouth full of M & M's.
I was looking for chick feeders on ebay and saw one like this, and it even said in the title line 'CHICK FEEDER BROODER CANDY DISPENSER' or something of the like. I lol'd then, but it makes total sense now! I will totally make a candy dispenser out of mine in the future! After much boiling and sanitizing!)

I have two old chick feeders that I use with the big girls, one for oyster shells and another for grit. The small feeder holes make it (almost) impossible for them to bill out, or scratch out.
The m&m's do look tasty though.........................................
