Generally beaks aren't clipped unless the chicken has a crossed beak or some other deformity. I suppose you could try to file the pointy part, but the chicken won't like it!
Try to hold your hand as flat as possible when you feed them, and keep the food in your palm. That will hurt less.

Hey I got 4-H chickens and most came with clipped beaks and what tool do you use to clip them? Oh and do you have to clip them?

I've noticed with my group it isn't so much that their beaks are sharp as that sometimes they open them too wide and grab my fingers. I have a few chronic offenders.

I agree, hold your hand flat. Alternatively (which is what I do) cut your treat into longer, thinner strips. That way they'll take the snack further away from your tender digits.

I wouldn't clip my chickens beaks. Yeah, they can hurt sometimes when feeding them by hand but still, it sounds cruel to me.

I just got brown egg laying pullets from Moyer's Chicks and their beaks were trimmed

. Does anyone know if they will grow back? I would really like them to have their natural beaks.
