Yeah, you don't want to use a fabric screen or plastic rails with a heat lamp.
My adjustable window screens are metal mesh and metal rails.
I used a heat lamp with them. . Just make sure you keep them clean, no dust buildup. GC

Yeah, thanks. I had a couple of large cardboard boxes.
I've heard you can get large boxes at box truck rental companies.
I use a plug in dimmer with the heat lamp, , so I don't have to raise/lower to control temperature.
I also Velcro a thermometer to the side of the box at floor level under the lamp. You can see it in the first pic of my previous post. GC

When mine started doing that I covered it with some hardware cloth left over from the coop build. As soon as the coop was ready, I moved them to it with their heater. Once I was sure they had enough feathers, I unplugged the heater. I had a radiant heater and I live in SOUTH Texas so my situation might be different.
