clipping muscovy's nails

Besides my babies are all outside most of the time. That's great that you can trim them though! Great question

I have had to do this ONCE. My oldest drake's nails had started to get overgrown somewhat badly and they were very curved and laying to the side when he walked, I did it only because it looked so uncomfortable for him.

He was a friendly boy and din't mind being picked up but he was big and was unsure about the shiney silver toenail clippers i was using(which worked fine!), so he did squirm a little & i got a couple scratches. I would definitely ONLY do it if they are overgrown and be sure to have a towel or something to wrap the duck in to reduce squirming. Also, just like dogs nails, ducks have a 'quick' in them and if you cut into it there will be blood everywhere!! so cut with care.

If this is any help, these are the BEFORE and AFTER pics of my boys nails...

I could see it a little bit on this guys' nails, but luckily his were white. Of course it's going to be much harder to tell on dark-nailed ducks. As you can see, i still left his a little long but he did seem happier afterward, walked better too.
