For what reasons should you clip a chickens wings

Lots of people don't fence the top of their chicken runs and or have short fences and live in the suburbs or have close neighbors where the chickens fly over the fences and get into trouble. Neighbors complaining can get you a fine and that's no good and neither are angry neighbors.

If they are flighty enough to get out of their run by flying over.

Not all chickens will. I have a free range part of my garden run set up with fencing only up to my knee and they don't fly over it so no need to clip

Years ago we had a six foot wire run and the chickens back then would fly over that so we did clip.

So depends on your chickens and run if it will be nescesary.

If you have a top on your run it will keep the chickens inside, and hawks, etc. OUT. If you do clip wings you lessen their chances of escaping predators, so it's something to think about.
