You would be surprised! There is not much difference between caring for 24 or 29 ducks. Just a bit more food to dispense, the house must be cleaned after 85 instead of 90 days… Ducks scale very well.So glad you heard him and got him in! No doubt he told all the other ducks all about itThe others will all be wanting to come inside and get in the tub today too
I can't imagine it's easy doing a head count with 29 ducks.
Usually i don't have to do a head-count in the evening. I know Limpy is a straggler every day and i have to watch out for him, but yesterday, i swear there was no Limpy in the pool, where he usually hands out. - Or i haven't seen him because the water level is low in there. So happy Limpy is okay. I have to do head counts many times in the evening. And have still missed a few. Thank goodness most go in before I am finished cleaning up, I have had to go round up the stragglers. And have looked outside before and seen a bantam standing at the door wanting in and it's all locked up. It's a horrible feeling. Hope you find Limpy doing good this morning. And your migraine is gone.
And yet sometimes sooo dumb! - But i love him too!I just love Limpy! He is so smart!
Believe it or not, i am already looking for ways to expand the duck-house…Maybe they’d be easier to count if you had an even 30
.
It should not have happened! Limpy is already weaker that the others and i don't know if he would have survived last night, it was cold and it was very wet…Be kind to yourself, you were sick and didn't do it on purpose, Limpy is a very intelligent drake to know where to go to be heard. I've blocked off my chicken entrance where I could clean the coop without them under foot and went out the next morning and found where I'd failed to unblock their door. so they spent the night outside, it didn't kill anyone.
When somebody calls me "bird-brain" i smile and say "Thank you!. - Confusing everybody.Anyone that says our ducks are stupid, has never truly been loved by one that knows we care for them.
Sounds like they do have you trained, maybe you can set up a side shelter that God forbid should it happen again, they'd have a place to get into. I've since stopped closing off the chicken door when I am cleaning, I just boot them in the butt with the broom. Their nosy and like to come watch what I'm doing. So much so they will walk away from their scratch. It should not have happened! Limpy is already weaker that the others and i don't know if he would have survived last night, it was cold and it was very wet…
Every morning, after releasing the Duckies i have to lock the door open with a bungee-cord, otherwise the wind blows it shut and then the ducks can no longer access their beloved pellets. Whenever i forget to do this and the door is closed they run around the house trying to alert me to their misery. They do have their humon trained well, do they?![]()
