Close call with stray Pit Bull in our back yard. Sad Update! pg 7

Thank you for the info on the Oxine, will research it & see where I can locate it.

We got Marty from the Animal Shelter before we left Calif. in Feb. So he has all his shots & the snip snip too.

I want to do all I can to fix the yard, before we start thinking about another dog. If we do find one at the shelter, spring of next year. I am going to ask them if they could keep the dog a few days after the shots are given, just to give the dogs body a chance to get the meds through it's system. Am just very on edge now about even thinking about bringing another dog home.

Ok, I am going to ask a question in the nicest possible way I can think of, because I'm not attacking, just VERY confused.

If you could not afford to vaccinate your last puppy, and your money is so tight, why are you going to get another one? You are setting yourself up to be emotionally ravaged and guilty over not being able to provide for another animal. In fact, I am deeply deeply confused that you would consider making the exact same mistake all over again, because of how upset you were in your posts.

Also, you are going to spend money on bleaching the yard rather than just getting vaccinations for your new puppy? It would take more money to turn the outdoors into a sterile environment than it does making your dog healthy enough to withstand the outdoors.

Just really trying to understand what is going on, and to try to help you.

Found a company who sells Oxine, they game me the number to the manufacture where I can talk to one of the chemist who can tell me how to spray the yard. But I will have to wait till till Monday to talk to them.

I hope this will help ease my mind once we do get a new dog. But I think I will have my husband do monthly applications on our property.

Still can not make it through the day with out crying, I keep looking at the places Sophie like to lay, and still expect to see her there.
Marty rarely leaves my side, and is now sleeping on the chair in our room & not under the bed like he did before.

Again Thank You everyone for the kind thoughts & info to help us with our property.

Pele, we are not getting another un-vaccinated dog, if you read my previous posts, I said that we would make sure this dog would be fulling vaccinated and ask if it could stay where we got it for a few days to let the meds take effect.

That is why we are waiting till spring, so we have a chance to mourn, and can prepare the yard and surrounding area for any new dog we may get. We will be in a better financial situation next year, and will have the money to get a dog at the shelter. And since the shelter does not give you a dog, unless it has it's shots & is fixed, we we not have the same problem like we did with Sophie, which we got from the Walmart parking lot from people giving her away for free.

Ah, that makes SO much more sense. Whew! I thought I had read through all of the posts, but I must have missed that part, that's why I was so confused.

I'm very sorry for your loss, but I think it's wonderful that you've taken it as a learning experience, and are taking the time to make sure it never happens again.
