I've read somewhere that you can put some kinda of cloth in the bator on top of the wire on day 18 when you take them out of the auto turner. This is suppose to make clean up alot easier and not have any affect on the hatch. Has anyone else heard of this or ever done it before? If so what kind of cloth did you use and was it worth it?

It's the vinyl shelf lining for kitchen cabinets that comes in rolls. Cobby looking stuff that you cut to fit to size. I've never had trouble with a terribly messy bator from a hatch. I just keep them on the wire and clean from there. So no money spent on it

I put down a layer of paper towels when I hatch quail. Their feet are so small it keeps from mishaps. But with others i like to be able to monitor the humidity trays. My bators are styrofoam and they all clean with sponges. Good luck

The material you are referring to is cheese cloth you can find it in the hardware section where the stain and stuff is in Wal-Mart or you can buy the rubberie non slip shelf liner to put down. I have hatched with nothing and with the shelf liner. Shelf liner vs. Nothing is like rolling an egg on carpet vs. vinyl flooring. The hatched chicks still roll them some but not free rolling. Plus it gives the new chickens something to pad there feet and help keep there feet under them.
