clothes smell musty... how can I resolve this issue?

I use baking soda and vinegar.

Grease I spray with Simple Green. It's what it was made for to begin with.

If you can wash with these things and then line dry they should smell much better.

You can also start leaving a dryer sheet in drawers and in closets. Change them about once a month. I put those in with towels, sheets and stored balankets too.

did vinegar on its own.. no results.. but if i mix it with baking soda will the chemical reaction damage my washer?

It won't hurt anything. Add detergent also.

I have an older style washer and I wait till it is full of water then add some of each. So no not once all mixed with all that water. I have not mixed the two in a slot for soap so I would not know what it would do sorry.

What I recommend is Melaleuca products. I love sol-u-mel and their laundry soap.

I dont have any baking soda left... (moms dog got skunked this past week) BUT I am going to add vinegar to the pre wash cup, dump borax over the clothes and add the soap to the regular cup and same the softener...

My husband is a runner and his sweaty clothes stink! I wash them with lemon scented ammonia and regular liquid detergent. The ammonia takes care of the odor. Be careful not to mix ammonia with any type of chlorine bleach product as it creates a toxic gas!

I think what happened is when we went to Darien Lake a few weeks back my son did not dry his towel before putting it into the hamper (the kids have hampers in their room) and it got everything smelly... now that bacteria is just being passed from one article to the others but I cant understand is why wont it die?.. I have washed his clothes in the sanitary cycle that uses super hot water and washes them 3X.. the cycle lasts 2 1/2 hours

Have you tried disinfecting the hamper? Perhaps the hamper is holding the bacteria and spreading it to the other clothes.

I did one better... I threw it out
