My name is Laurie and my daughter Sammie and I are in the very beginning stages of having our own back yard chickens. She has made a lovely brooding box (where to put it?) and we are awaiting delivery of our six chicks: Lucy, Ethel, Duchess, Pickle, Nugget and Butterball. Meanwhile my daughter is going to make a large coop and run so that our dog (yellow lab) can have his own area and the chicks theirs. We are so excited and reading, reading, reading to try to be prepared for our chicks. This looks like a great group of like minded people. Thank you for letting me join.

Hi Laurie and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us and congrats on your impending little flock! Personally, I put my brooder in an outbuilding - not sure the dander and smell is something that I'd like in the house.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/category/learning-center.11/ and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

All the best

Nice to meet you Laurie, Welcome to Backyard chickens. I'm sure you and daughter Sammie, will have the time of your life, with these feathered characters. Especially love the name Butterball but, it is making me hungry.
