I have noticed several times a week a couple of eggs with holes which I blame on Clumsy chickens maneuvering around on the nest and punching holes with their claws those eggs are not eating unless another clumsy chicken gets in there and sits on them and smashes them. I've never seen a chicken with all kinds of yolk or white matter that on it beak or face. What I will do when I find these broken eggs that haven't been fully cracked open I will take them out into the pasture and open them up and let the chickens take care of business while away from the coop I also crack up the shells in the find pieces and in a separate Place given the shells hopefully there's no association ideas opinions I really don't believe there intentionally poking a few holes here and there I believe it's happening because they're fat chickens with big feet lol and they are the heavier breeds

Add more nest material in there. My experience with holes on the end of the egg is from dropping onto floor of nest.
Hens stand when egg is laid and drops on wood making a hole.
I use compressed straw in nests. I need to add straw to nests a couple of times a week because the hens push the straw to the side. 20180430_094812.jpg
Some people use nest pads. GC
