I have a cage with 2 chickens and 1 rooster and have noticed that both hens are laying together in one of the nesting boxes. They are both good layers and I expect that they have eggs under them but they don't want to move. Has anyone else had this happen? Do I need to separate them?

Welcome!

How big is this cage you got 3 chickens in?
Never NOT check under your hens daily for eggs. If they are broody and want to peck---use a thick sleeve and or gloves. If Both are broody and these are your only hens I would break the broodiness of one if you want one to hatch so at least you might get a egg about every day. If you want one to set---you need to mark the eggs you gather and put under her and remove any fresh layed eggs daily or move her to a private pen so she can set and hatch with out being bothered.

I only see trouble, heart break, and dissipointment ahead with two brood hens sharing one nursery or nest.
