I had a slight episode with coci a couple years ago. I had turned some 3 month olds into a run where I had just moved out some older chickens. All Chicken's have the coci germ in there stool. Only younger chickens normally get sick from it. They normally want get it as long as they are on chick starter (medicated for coci) and kept off the ground where other chickens have been until there old enough for it not to affect them also keep their feeders and waterers free of their litter. I've also heard of others still getting it after practicing all this as well, but it sure helps.
Hope she continues to do well, if she's acting normal now she should be ok. GOod LUck!
What I posted last night regarding your other lengthy post and with all of the other deceased ones you have recently had, I would do the following:
1. Take the fecal sample to the vet, usually it is only $15 or so run a fecal....worth a lot of piece of mind so you know what you need to treat.
2. Corid does not always get the coccidia, and Chook is absolutely right...Sulmet needs to be given with care as it can be hard on the kidneys. A better choice, from the research I did, was sulfadimethoxine which you can get from First State Vet Supply. Follow dosage instructions carefully as this one, too, can cause damage to the kidneys if used wrong. If using sulmet or sulfadimethoxine you will need to not eat eggs for about 4 weeks after finishing treatment (I think the tx is 5 days). Retreat again 3-4 weeks later with Corid as precaution is what I did when mine got cecal coccidia. A bad bout of untreated coccidia or insufficiently treated coccidia can cause permanent damage to the intestinal system, which you would see in a necropsy. Do a google on coccidia and there is an article that shows damage of different types of coccidia to which regions of the intestines, etc. and how to identify.
3. Do some sort of probiotics either in water or yogurt/buttermilk mash to boost the good bacteria.
Good luck and I wouldn't bring any new ones in until your flock is clear for several months and/or you know what is going on.
I am glad to here doodle is doing better!!! Keep a close eye anyway. I had the same experience as pamperedpoultry this past summer. I lost some of my pullets and it seemed to always get the best ones!! We treated all (100 plus and counting) our chickens except for a few in the most distant tractors and now all is fine. I have to wait for my wife to get home before I can tell you the name but it was a one week treatment in their water. We also wormed. Most of my experience is with ringneck doves so I bow to the wife and friends when it comes to sick chickens. I have called but got her voicemail. Do keep an eye out because I had one that I thought was "over the hump" that still passed. I think part of what caused our problem was the feed store running out of medicated starter and grower. I still take issue with them. I am fairly certain that what we used was not just for cocci. I didn't go to my vet (the vet thinks I am bit odd because I bring him doves to see that are less valuable than the treatment he perscribes) because of work. BTW he is great with birds!! I wish I could help more!!
I had a dove once that seemed to have cocci. My vet gave it a steroid shot and the next day it was 100% better. If ever there is someone that loves birds more than me it is Doctor Biddle!!
