Coccidiosis and Roundworms

I did read Corid could be rough on their bodies.

Corid is really not hard on them. Sulfa meds are, which are sometimes used to treat coccidiosis. Vitamins and probiotics are a good idea any time there has been a digestive upset. Glad she passed an egg and is feeling better. Hopefully it doesn't happen like that again.

How did you go about getting the fecal? I have 18 chickens. Do you just wait for a few to poop?

Collect a mixed sample of several fresh droppings, under the roosts in the morning is usually a good way to get a broad sample. You don't necessarily need to do each individual bird, unless one is sick and you want to specifically check that one. If you are just routinely checking for parasites a broad sample from the flock is good, if one has them then generally you treat the whole flock anyway.

I took samples of different areas (run, coop, just laid) and took the samples into a vet clinic in separate bags. It was expensive for a diagnosis but cheaper than me grabbing a microscope and doing it myself.

I noticed that the one who was egg bound still has runny poop. Other than that she has been acting fine. Do you think it’s the worms that she still might have? I have seen an improvement in their comb color since they have been on the Vitamins and Electrolytes. How long should I give that to them in their water you think?

Update: Overall the chickens seem to be fine now. However the one with the diarrhea hasn’t given any eggs for about a week. She doesn’t look egg bound. Wonder what is still causing her runny poop? Maybe she stopped laying for the winter time? Also, will chickens pick at feathers on chickens that are molting? I have one in a molt right now but it doesn’t look like the others are picking the feathers out, just picking at the loose ones.

Kinda late but that one did end up being egg bound. She passed it though and their issues all cleared up.
