So I have some baby chicks who all of a sudden started getting weak and dying within days. It started with my kikiriki chick who had messy feathers, stood under the heat lamp with its head down a lot of the time and now my two silkie chicks are doing it too along with a silkie mix. They all seem weak, are standing under the lamp with their heads down, and they even fall over easily and stay in that position. One of them tries to stand up but fails and the other doesn’t even try, he just lays there. Could it be coccidiosis? They don’t have bloody or red poop and a majority of the chicks poop normally, some poop watery but that could be cause of the heat lamp, right?? I have about 20 chicks and two of the weak ones died this morning and we have two that are still sick and appearing weak. What can I do?

How old are the chicks? They really can't get coccidiosis in their first couple of weeks. Giving them Corid to be on the safe side wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't give it to days-old chicks needlessly.

Do you have a thermometer you can lay on the floor of your brooder to check the temperature? It should be no more than 95F their first week, then down 5 degrees each week. Do they have an area where it's room temperature in the brooder in case they get too warm?

For the weak ones, I'd try feed them some raw egg yolk. You can syringe it drop by drop to the side of their beaks. If you have some Nutri-Drench or Poultry Cell, I'd add a couple drops of that to it.

How are the chicks doing? I’m suddenly having a similar issue with my chicks and have recently lost one.

They're doing better now, I'm thinking it was a nutritional thing because the only ones who died were my 2 kikirikis and my 4 silkies. none of the other breeds died. I went out and bought them corid which is treatment for coccidiosis just in case and after 7 days, I bought them a vitamins and electrolytes packet for their water and I give them that every once in a while. I haven’t lost any since so either one of those two things helped or it was just a nutritional thing that affected the bantams only.
I highly recommend you buy poultry nutri drench from your local feed store or wherever you can find it. This gives them emergency vitamins and nutrients and boosts weak or sick chicks fast. This will hopefully help your chicks out. You can even give it to the healthy ones for an extra boost. I’m going to be buying it too, soon.
