Coccidiostat Questions!

I have 4, week or so old chickie babies.
Two have runny stool. and one looks like she may have cocci.
They are all on probiotics, electrolytes, organic starter food (PayBack brand-The dealer said it was medicated but I don't see where it says that on the bag).
I started adding oatmeal to stop the runs. It seemed to work at first, but now they are runny again.
I went to store to get coccidiostat. The first place gave me Corid-20% soluble powder, but it's for bovines. They said that people come in and use it for chicks. I was nervous to try to dose that...so I went to another place and bought Sulmet antibacterial that treats coccidia. It has a dosing for both chickens AND calves-so thinking maybe the Corid isn't such a crazy thing after all. Because the PayBack bag didn't actually SAY medicated, I went and bought another chick starter food that is medicated.

My questions for you are:
-How do you feel about trying to use Corid?
-If I am giving the antibiotics, should I NOT give the medicated food? I think I read on a blog that they would negate each other??

Go ahead and mix up the Corid according to what it says for treatment, not prevention. The medicated starter has that in it in a preventative dose which won't be strong enough alone to treat coccidiosis.

It will not interfere with antibiotics. The antibiotics are harder on the chicks, as a matter of fact, than the Corid treatment. What the Corid treatment does is to block absorption of B vitamins which the cocci parasites feed on. It won't hurt the chicks to dose them even if they don't have cocci. So go ahead with it.

Since the Corid isn't dosed for chickens, do you think a treatment dose would be something like 1.5 tsps/gallon?

The dosage for chickens and cattle are VERY different.

two teaspoons per gallon is what is needed.

I would use 2 tsp/gallon for the first 5-7 days, then what would you recommend for the last 7-14 days?

As a natural remedy (not recommending this over traditional medicine, use that first) garlic and/or cayenne has worked for me to help reduce or cure some avian diseases until I can get proper medicine for them.
