Cochin breeding, genetics, and showing

Pics
I have a question for the breed experts. Do hatcheries evrer have good stock? I know when I look at Ideal or Cackle they either have a drawing, or a picture credited to some one else. So would I ever get good stock from them? And by good I mean the big beautiful birds you all have, or like the ones I saw at our local breeder (who I just bought four from). The breeder Here has beautifull birds, and I fell in love instantly, she has pics on craigslist I'm just not sure if I'm allowed to copy them over here. Anyways, hatcheries, good ever?

I am wonderring if anyone on here would be willing to post some pictures of my birds if I emailed the pictures to them? For some reason after BYC changed the method of posting pictures I cant do it anymore.

I have no idea about the hatcheries.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and make a blunt and honest comment...........the answer is no. If you are truly looking for good, show or at least breeder quality birds, you will not get them at a hatchery. Now to elaborate a bit, some hatcheries are better than others, and ONCE I saw a Silver Laced hen that I would have said was definitely show quality and the owner said she got it from a hatchery, but that was only one bird out of many.
So that's my opinion for what it's worth.

edited for spelling

Most serious breeders hatch lots of eggs in May, let's say 100 eggs. Then they grow the chicks out and keep 2 or 3. And they do that year after year, always choosing the best as keepers.

You could buy 100 hatchery chicks and you might get lucky

But also think about "Show Quality". Anyone can haul a bird to a show and enter. The real test comes when you see your bird lined up with what has shown up that day. Then you'll know if you want to keep showing that bird or get a better one

Thank You Nancy I really appreciate that you went through all the time and trouble to do this for me.

I would like to submit these three cockerels for critical examination and comments. Anything goes. I believe they are all under 6 months old. I have a few questions/observations.

1. Is ckl #1 tail too high?(he is also in the background of ckl #2)
2. On ckl #2 2nd picture does he look like his legs are stilts (lol), too much air between him and the ground?
3. Is ckl #3 s back too straight? cushion too low?

I really don't know exactly how to word it. Just wonderring if people could make comments especially on the length of back, cushion, tail and how it is supposed to be and how you see these different cockerels in that focus? And anything else. Thank You
