Cochin breeding, genetics, and showing

Nancy, I took these pics last weekend of some of my GL chicks - they all grow out so differently. (Side and front of each.) The last one does have willow legs, but I want to see how the pattern develops.

That is interesting Gail, when the chicks are very young they look a little bit like Partridge chicks, or maybe it's just Part. with poor pattern I'm not sure which. Exciting to see your babies, are you still hatching?

This is Calypso, which is from my hatch 2 years ago. So you never know for sure what you'll get. His pattern developed quite nicely, but as you can see, he never lost all the white tips on the feathers. I'm really going to focus on documenting their progress this time.

I had one hatch yesterday, and there are 3 more in the incubator to hopefully hatch over the next few days. The hens seem to have gone on vacation - not a single egg for the past 2 weeks.

For those having problems with photo uploads, are you uploading from your computer or another host like photobucket? I'm uploading directly from my computer.
When I click on the "insert Image" icon, I get a message box with a black box. I click on the black box, and I can go directly to my computer picture folders. Then click on whatever I want to upload.
Be sure you check the box that says you have permission to use the photo, otherwise it won't work at all.

(I'm still having problems uploading multiple pics - I have to do them one at a time.)

I am doing it just like you said but it just sits there and never uploads. I just had figured it out from the last time they changed it. I never figured out how to load multiple photos. In my opinion the old way was much bettter. I know they are trying to improve but sometimes it backfires.

Gail that first pullet looked to be double laced like partridge. Will she turn out to be single laced or is that a throwback to something else that cropped up? All mine so far that look like that become double laced

I'm not sure, Mandy. I'll keep everyone posted. I need to quit staring at them everyday, because it seems like they never change. But when I take pics every week or so, I can really see the changes. I'm just starting to see lacing on hackles, which is good, because I think in the past mine have been lacking there.

This is my 5th and last attempt to post multiple pictures. ! is of one of my grandsons at an APA poultry show last month. Other pics are supposed to be of chicks hatched to replace those lost in the raccoon attack. Columbian, Buff Columbian, Partridge, and Silver Penciled. I think Silver Penciled are becoming my second favorite variety. No Black chicks because the hens quit laying about that time. I give up and will post more single pictures. It does let me edit my post and then post another picture then submit the next single picture edit post another single picture ect. but the method posted on their link does not work for me. Love your birds Gail!

when posting multiple pics from your computer, they have to be in the same directory. click the first, then hold the ctrl key down and click the rest you want to load...


another thing you can do, if you're still having problems loading the images. load them all into your photo album here on byc (on your profile), then just right click the image, select Copy, then go back to where you want it linked and right click where you want the pic and select paste. it might pop a warning about accessing your computer, simply click 'allow access'.
if you click the smaller thumbnail image it also copies the link automatically, to open the larger image.

I have speant entirely too much time and money on these cochin chicks and see that most have loose wings and the heads don't seem to be that good (width) either. So I think it best to just buy some good cochins rather than hatch and feed a bunch that arent showing any progress. Thanks again Coopa for your input.


eta I sure hope everyone gets the picture posting figured out. I am going to try some things but if I crash my computer I probably won't be on here for a while. Sorry I have been such a pest lately.
