This is Fred Frye, my husband's rooster.

We saw a cochin at a friend's farm and he said if he ever had a rooster, he wanted one like that. So I saw one for sale on Craiglist. I told DH I was going out to get him. Half-afraid that I would come back with 10 chickens instead of one, he went with me. He picked out the partridge one. The woman gave him to us since her peacocks were harrassing him (plucked out his tail feathers and leg feathers). She just wanted him to go to a good home.

So we brought him home, isolated for a week in a rabbit hutch (he about filled the whole thing). Now he's living the life of riley ... even though his leg feathers haven't grown back yet as the hens keep pecking at the feather buds. He wakes up at 8:45, eats some corn and BOSS, gets a drink, crows, retreats into the coop to "watch TV" as DH says, iow, hang out on the perch. Lately, he's taken to calling him "Onslow" after the brother-in-law on "Keeping Up Appearances", especially since he hasn't been very amorous with the hens lately.

We love his coloring! And he's so laid back (too laid-back) and good with our daughter.
