Trying to help a friend figure out gender. She said she got this Cochin from a breeder eight months ago who claimed the chicken was ten months during the time. Has not crowed or laid eggs yet. 🤔

Does it sometimes take longer than 18 months?
No. If that is the case, then I would first of all make sure of it by checking the width of her pubic bones and the state of her vent. If the bones are close together, and the vent is small, that means she isn't laying. In which case she has some other problem that is causing the lack of eggs, such as a damaged ovary, which cannot be reversed.

I was thinking maybe the breeder might not have told her the correct age of the bird as well? Has been confirmed that there isn’t no laying, but I’m kinda hoping it might be age and not an egg issues 🤞🏻.

That is also possible. Cochins, as was stated above, can lay late. They're not great layers but the should lay some eggs by 12 months, at least.
