cochin rooster personality?

Ours is because peacocks pulled off all his leg feathers and now our hens are pecking at the feather buds that are trying (in vain) to grow back.

Ours is quiet, sweet and calm. Our 5 yr old daughter goes into the run with him and he just leaves her alone. He's also very lazy, doesn't get up to crow until 8:45 in the morning!

LOL @ 8:45

I have many curious ladies and wonder if they would de feather a roo like that if I got one..I really want only one roo and about 10 ladies ^^ I really just dont want to see them with mud on there feathers but like someone said , maybe its not that bad..I love a snuggly chicken...Im kinda like Elmyra from that one cartoon. She used to say " I want to love em, kiss em, hug em. squeeze em" lol

There sure do, mine is such a gentlman, and only crows a few times in the morning, a few at night, and whenever spooked.

You Sure your rooster isnt a hen?

I have the partridge cochins LF's and I LOVE THEM...they are sooo sweet and gentle and the roosters are OMG, the most gorgeous roosters ever. I was thinking about instead of adding to my different breeds just adding more partridge cochins instead.

We have a standard black cochin rooster. He is the sweetest chicken we have! We don't have any cochin hens, but wanted a fail safe sweet roo to watch the girls while they free range. My children can walk right up to him and pick him up. As far as the foot and leg feathers my boy is out from sun up till they put themselves to bed at dusk. He does get wet, but I have never known mud to cake on his feathers. He keeps himself very clean. This summer I did trim his foot feathers because I thought it might help them not get wet in the dew every morning. I most likely won't trim them this summer. You won't be able to name him strong rooster names like Thor or Sarget. Instead you'll be like us stuck naming him a sweet if not un-rooster like name. Their just so different than any other breed of rooster I've had.

This is Albert

You can see his foot feathers are trimmed in the picture

You can see his feet are wet here, but that's really as bad as it gets.

My boy crows all the time! He starts in the morning and stops at night, but it is such a pleasant crow! He is the biggest sweetest boy I have ever had. He will be 2 this spring and has always been just as nice and docile towards both people and other roosters. He will put one in their place if needed, but doesn't fight or attack. He will also protect my kids and I from our other mean roo. He will actually chase him back tot he pen and stand guard at the door making sure he doesn't come out while we are out there. Our other roo is a different breed but is not a nice boy to people!

If I had to choose a breed of rooster to always have him my flock, it would definitely be a big ol' cochin boy!

I have a giant blue cochin roo I got as an egg from CR in CA. He's a grouch! I just ran across a gal I sold some of his siblings to. We had matching peck scabs on our hands. No one else I know has had cochin roo personality issues. Guess it's just the gene pool.
