Hello Crazy-chicka99,Hello everyone,
I'm new here but this spring I was thinking about maybe hatching my own chicks with a broody Easter egger. I was wondering what breed would be best to cross him with and if I could raise the cockerels for meat?
Hens I have:
Rhode Island Red
White Leghorn
Buff Orphington
Easter Eggers
Barred Plymouth Rock
Black Rock
2 Cochin Cocks
We just had our first hatching, two of four eggs so far : )
So exited, we added two Easter Egger checks to our coop and ended up w/ one of each sex. Now found two little chicks when checking the hen house today. Maybe you just have to decide or let nature work itself. Some hens are layers, but not setters and some are setters, but not layers. Lucky if one does both! We have five hens and one of them has laid on four eggs and they are hatching. Wish we could find someone in our aria that would like to take and raise the rosters for meat!
