Writing this with a heavy heart & empty feeling inside.
We buried our beloved Black Cochin Robby Rooster last night.
Robby had the most amazing personality. He loved to come knock on our patio door for a yogurt cup. Bedtime also brought him to the door, as if to say, "I gathered all the girls up and have done my job, now please come tuck me in"
We enjoyed sitting on the deck all summer watching him find food for the girls, and call them over so they could eat his finds while he stood guard over them. He was also watcher of my gardens, and when one of the girls ventured into them, he would always give them a scolding and get them out of the garden. There were many a day that it was just him & I sitting on the deck chillin' out.
He was the Rooster in my daughters 4H trio. You could not have asked for a better show bird than him. Last year was my 10 year old daughters first year showing poultry and we aquired him and two hens in April for this. He was so laid back and easy to work with. He didn't care that she didn't know how to hold him properly and fumbled alot when showing him. He even loved when she bathed & blow dried him before her Achievement Day.
Unfortunately he died yesterday of unknown causes to us. He did appear to be moulting but had no symptoms of any ailments. He was found last night dead in their outside pen with blood coming out of his nose & beak. There were no signs of any critters getting into the pen.
He was our first rooster and potentially the last as it is too hard to say goodbye to such an awesome amazing Rooster !
