I just asked what breed my bird is today and it was suggested that she may be a Cochin!
I researched it a little and she seems to fit. She is fluffy, feathered feet, a good mama and very easy going except when she is reminding our other hen that she is boss.![]()

ROFL here's one of my blue partridge split mille girls (in my mille pen now and just started laying again today!!!) earlier this summer. she had 42 babies under her while she was inside but then took just 8 with her outside to free range.
not only were they not all hers, they ranged in age from new to about 3 weeks old... the 2 black and white faces are my 2 mottled pullets nearing POL now, several blrw, dorking, sfh, ee, & other cochins.

that's why I kept my 2 incompletely laced girls. much better type but poor lacing. I may have to build some trap nests so I can tell which girl each egg is from to mark when i'm incubating, just for my own sake. She appears to be a Silver Laced Cochin. This is a very rare variety and typically of poor type. I can't see her feet and legs, but she looks like to be a Cochin. If you could get a Silver Laced rooster of the best quality available you could very possibly create some interesting birds.

ok I need a suggestion... I have a partridge girl, nice type, markings are a bit mossy but not bad... problem is I have no partridge roos.
debating what to do with her. LOL I've got red, silver laced, mille fleur and mottled pens, and extra blue-buff Columbian boys... so do I hang onto her in the hopes of a partridge roo, or sell her off? her personality is very timid so she does not do well free ranging and all my 'extra eggers' are the free range bunch.
I contemplated starting a blue laced red project, and she could do that with one of my blue Columbian boys, but not sure if I really want to get that started right off or get my silver laced birds better first.
what made this all come to a head was finding an egg in my mottled pen, where she is currently residing. I decided that was not a good pen to keep her in, if i'm to work on my mottled birds. I've got my reds and silver laced together right now, only because they're all 4 month old pullets and aren't laying yet., but that pen is a bit crowded to add her...
or I could make her the 'den mother' and put her in with the 6-8 week old chicks and let her mother them...
or else I look for a partridge roo and another hen at the big swap coming up, and build yet another pen for them.
chicken math strikes once again.![]()
