1 and 4 are pullets to me. that nice graceful slope to the beak from the looks of them. the other 2 i would wait a little longer to be sure on it. the boys usually have a sort of hook to the beak.

Tammie- Thanks !

Chickies Momma-Thanks! It will be interesting to see as they grow, i will be happy with whatever i get. You learn something new everyday, i had no idea they sloped like that can help sex them. Thank you!

the shape of the beak is about the only thing i seem to pick up on once they get to be about 3-4 weeks old on most breeds of bantams. having favs it is easier for me to spot gender since even the bantams show their colors by about 2-3 weeks, but waiting on that color is sometimes not always accurate (some males color in later than others) so i look at the beaks to be sure.

OK, here are 'some' of my baby LF Cochins. There are 7 total, but most wouldn't come out of the carrier. That's ok, because the ones in these pictures are the ones I want to know about. Can anyone tell me what color they are? Splash? They have a black sibling, and what looks like normal blue siblings also.

Sorry, the pictures aren't all that great.

These guys are so great!! I want more! LOL

I have a question...I have a drop dead gorgeous white standard pullet.............with vulture hocks. I was wondering does this trait tend to crop up in individuals with exceptional feather on the legs etc? Is it an occassional unwanted by-product?This pullet is big fluffy with feather to die for at four months old. Now I have a buff pullet the same age who is much less massive, more moderate leg feather and looks like a pullet-much less mature than the white of the same age. She is a good size but not massive. I wonder which pullet is "normal" and how the more moderate pullet may turn out? L

Would it be possible to post a couple photos?

Or email them directly?

I'd like to take a look and maybe send or post some shots of birds the same age for comparison purposes.

Normally, and I emphasize normally, because you never know what will pop up, you wouldn't see vulture hocks unless one of the parents wasn't showing it. They go through different stages as they mature and sometimes look hocky but in the end fill in nicely and everything sort of blends together. However, if one of the parents came out of a mating where its parents carried it then it could be a hidden item that has popped up in your pullet.

Can someone please post a picture of a Cochin with vulture hocks? What are they? Sorry if it sounds dumb.
Is anyone around Central Maine looking for a LF Buff Cochin? I have a few too many roosters and need to cut down.
He is real nice boy, not mean. I am in Chester Maine right now with him and a few others if anyone needs a Partridge Cochin roo, I have five of them I think. They are about 10-12 wks old. The buff is a little older.
