..... but I'm new to chickens. My eighteen-year-old fell in love with the cochins at the breeder where we got our silkies. He came home with three. The blue has started growing quite the comb and just the tiniest of wattle is visible while the two blacks have tiny little bumps for combs and no visible wattle growth. From what I've been reading, we've probably got a roo and two pullets, but I wanted the opinions of more experienced cochin owners.

Here's the blue's comb. It's not the greatest picture of a chicken comb ever. It seems all of my chicks would rather look another direction when a camera is pointed at them.

Here's one of the blacks. They both look alike in the comb department.

That blue's comb is huge and already pink, so it does look like a cockerel. The blacks, while I agree that it's too young to be sure, do look like pullets if they both have such small combs. Post again in a few weeks!

Here's the blue at four weeks old:

If that's not a cockerel, I'll be surprised.

The blacks haven't had much change to their combs. Neither one of them were cooperative with me, so here's a profile shot of one of them during their outdoor time.

Well Tails, the blue, made an attempt at crowing this morning. It sounded more like someone was strangling him and I didn't expect an attempt this young. He is only a month to a month and a half old.

He sure is a handsome fellow :) Also aren't those first crow attempts so funny! I had my mutt roo Courage inside due to him being attacked and he hopped up onto the bed, looked at me and let out this pathetic crow which sounded more like a small child screaming. He was about 8 weeks old when he did that,I think it shocked him more than me.
