Cockeral with a broken pecker

Sigh, my Cockerel has a broken upper beak, mostly snapped off (hanging by a small amount of beak at the top) right below the nostril. It's bleeding a medium amount, but not a huge amount. He's been drinking water and investigating some porridge I made him from starter mix.

Is there any way to fix this or should I get out the ax so he doesn't stuffer?

He's about 1 year old, pure bread unknown bread, but dark and shiny. Feed on layer pellets and a large amount of oyster shells, scratch, &c. He is a good defender of hens but scare of humans for some reason. Not the top boy in the flock. He broke it sometime this morning, between when I put him in the isolation house and when I took him out again a few hours later when his new owner picked him up to go to his new home (I sold him because we have too many boys). Otherwise he's healthy, no obvious sign of parasites, no trouble with his feet, very healthy ploomage.

Please advise.
A vet is not an option, but I'm not horribly squimish when it comes to fixing chickens.

Its hard to say if the beak can be fixed without a picture. If the broken section of the beak can be mended with something like Krazy Glue, and he is kept on a soft diet or hand fed away from others he may scrap with, he'll be alright. Vitamin K will help the blood coagulate.

I saw an article on "the chicken chick" website, where she fixed a broken beak with super glue and a tea bag. You might want to search for it. Don't know how to embed the address. Sorry.

I recall that story also re: the super glue. But don't remember where. If you search for :Super glue repair of broken beak it may come up. The beak will not grow back.

Thanks for the advice guys.

The break is right at the bottom of the nostrel, it seems to be bleeding a little less now, but still worrysome. Because it's so close to the breathing, I think I'll leave off the super glue. He's so high strung around humans that it's doing him more harm to try to treat him.

He's got a comfy place to sleep isolated from the rest of the flock. Lots of wet food and water. I'll give him till morning and then assess. If he's showing signs of recovery, or at least the will to live, than I'll take further action, otherwise I'll make sure he dosen't suffer.

He has a lot of fight in him, so I'm hoping it's enough for him to recover.

I'm glad you want to help him. Keep his blood strong by providing vitamins-electrolytes in the water a few days a week while he mends. You can even mix the recommended amount of Poultry Cell in his feed.
