Cockerel crowing or pullet trying to crow?

It all depends on the temperament of the rooster. I would not trust a rooster around a 3 year old, but with careful monitoring things MIGHT be okay. I have maintained breeding trios and pairs without damage to the hens, but again it depends upon the rooster.
My 3 year old daughter tried to pick up the white rooster and he started kicking like crazy! I ran up and grabbed him from her and he scratched my arm up. Unfortunately he's going to have to go soon.

Ahhh. Those are respectable war wounds.

You can't fault the roo for those though, you picked him up. How'd you like if some random dude ran by and picked you up? You'd scratch him too.

On the ground he may be fine. Roos generally hate to be picked up. You make them look bad while they're trying to impress their ladies!
