His nail will grow back as long as you didn't rip his entire nail out. And even if it doesn't its no big deal. One of my girls somehow lost a nail and she's fine

You only feed once a day - in the mornings? Just asking here - do you put out feed in the morning so he can eat all day or do you provide just a little food in the morning?

well, i feed him and his 7 other brothers and sisters 4 cups of feed every morning and they eat it up right away! he is now 5 months old.

I don't know where you are located, but in cold temperatures it is important to feed the chickens in the evening as well right before roosting time to help them stay warm during the night.

If they eat all the feed right away, what do they do the rest of the day?

Feed free choice = put out a feeder with feed in it, so they can eat freely throughout the day.

O i forgot to say they also free range all day so they also eat grass and seeds.

Make sure they have feed available all day long. Hens will eat as they pass in and out of the nest box. Chickens graze, and they may have more problems if you only feed once a day. They do best if they go to roost with a full crop.

This. Not sure how old the hens are, but them having feed available sure won't hurt anything.
