Coconut Coir

I've used it as a root media in the greenhouse. It hold a lot of water, but it can be fluffed up to help it dry. If your floor area never gets wet, I think it would be a good base. There are different grades of coir, and some is salty because it was stored near the ocean. Ask a greenhouse supply company about coir, and buy it from them. Also, LOOSE coir, as opposed to compressed bricks, is much easier to use.
