If I'm remembering it right, clinical depression is caused by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain and is a chronic condition.

At least that is what I remember being taught in nurses training. Maybe the definitions have changed down through the years but I see what you are saying and yes, depression can happen after anything traumatic and be short termed not to be confused with the long term type.
Right but depression can be a side effect of medications too...that's what I've always thought chemical depression was.
Hard to define, diagnose, and treat.
Lifetime of it for me.
