Good morning everyone! Lovely cold morning here. I’ll be helping my son with the little kids ages 5 and almost 2. The older granddaughter who is 12 is in the pediatric intensive care unit from a Covid related syndrome apparently. It’s not been a lot of fun here but I do appreciate the coffee!

Prayers for your granddaughter :hugs :hugs

I want to share a somewhat funny story. Last year I got a new dog (Kai) to keep my other dog company while I was at work. She is a good girl and does well with my chickens. Since I live out in the country all animals run free, so I leave the gate open for the chickens to free range. Not long after I get Kai, I started noticing eggs out in the yard. My hens are strict about laying eggs in the boxes. The eggs were undamaged but I didn't know what to think. After about a week of this, I saw Kai go into the chicken coop and she had her mouth closed but it looked odd. So I go out there and sure enough.. she has an egg in her mouth. She would just bring them out into the yard where she likes to hang out. Not play with them or eat them. As much as I love Kai.. shes not allowed to go into the coop anymore.

I'm so sorry to hear that Sequel. You have your hands full at the moment. I'll add the young lady to my prayer list. Seems like a lot of people I know are sick or recovering from surgeries right now.

Not unusual dog behavior, me thinks. About 8 years ago I had walked to the pond with our elderly border collie to fish. Lucy loved to go fishing with me and would nose around while I fished. We had flushed a turkey along the way, didn't think much of it till some time later here comes Lucy with her cheeks bulging. I reeled in and got up, she comes walking towards me really pleased with herself and I ask her what she is hiding from me. I hold my hand out and she drops a turkey egg in it.

Oh oh. I asked her where she found it and she obediently leads me down the levy but hangs back. I poke around and sure enough find a nest of 9 wild turkey eggs and no sign of mom. I put the egg back, gathered up my gear and left hoping that she would come back. Went back several days later to check, figuring that if she was left alone the hen would come back. Nope. Found the nest destroyed.

Feel bad to it to this day. If I had owned an incubator at a time I probably would have kept a closer look on the nest and taken the eggs back and tried to hatch them.

But when we first bought our farm the previous owner had free range chickens and for a month Lucy would find 'hidden' eggs and bring them to the house to show me her prizes.

I always told her to go elsewhere to eat them though.

Thank you! She does have heart damage, I don’t know how severe but she will have to see a cardiologist when she gets out of the hospital. None of us saw this coming!

Hopefully the damage will be minimal. I have one friend whose heart has apparently recovered completely and another who will have lifetime problems. The impact of this virus is so variable from individual to individual. I'm hoping her age will help minimize things. :fl

Like Sour said, hopefully damage will be minimal and her age will help 🙏🙏 I will continue to keep her and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
