Evening! Its supposed to get cold, as in low 20's F cold, tonight and clear. Put nice fresh bedding in the tractor coop and the waterer is cleaned and filled. The hens got a little free range, following me around. Hope you all had a super saturday!

Good morning from a Winter Wonderland! The first snow of the season (pretty late this year for which I am thankful) is decorating the branches, golden rays sparkling, creating nature's bling. Yesterday we built steps for my new coop. The coop is built on a slope with the door on the low end and the high end about four feet above ground. I have hardware cloth all around the perimeter - a trap door will be made inside so the chickens will have access to an underneath run all year round. The sun reaches under about six feet, so in winter they will still have a place to sun themselves, and in summer there will be plenty of shade. It is so nice, to have steps! The stepladder was pretty precarious. Almost done, the rest is inside work.

Have a great day!

Hi there! No, no snow yet here to speak of. One day we had a few flurries float by, but nothing on the ground yet. Just in the last few days it has turned much colder and frozen water buckets. I am trying my best to stay busy, don't know how I will make it through the whole winter! I have a small kitchen remodel idea whirling around in my head, maybe I need to think more on that.

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Hot coffee cold morning ! I went to let the chickens out this morning and they got their first look at snow.
the first three or four that were rushed out in the morning stampede tried to fly and not touch the snow the rest stood there clucking and growling, and the biggest baddest meanest rooster of them all ran to the back of the coop and refused to even look out at the bright happy land scape.
He even made a couple of faints at me when I went in to collect eggs----- He knows bettter!

and good afternoon! At two this morning I dreamt of camping in the snow; and awoke realizing the heater was off. aaargh. But our heating guy came out right away and only charged $75 to run a new wire from the inside to outside heat pump. Something had nicked it, so it was repeatedly triggering the internal breaker. Weed eater? Critter? it doesn't matter, I'm warm now! I came sooo close to drinking again - that's drinking coffee.

The chickens watched excitedly from their tractor, pacing back and forth wanting to join the fun. I consoled them with yogurt treats.
Well, hope you all have a good day and stay warm.
