Good morning chicken wranglers
I hope everyone's holiday was wonderful.Iam thankful for all the positive responces on the wabbit;s litter training ,but I must confess that with a new house,'and upon hearing of the rabbits affininty for chewing woodwork he will remain caged for all of his days in my charge.I have decided that the kids can get him out for intervals of suppervised enetertainment and exercise. It is bright and sunny out today but we had a doozy of a thunderstorm last night. Spring is in like a lion .God bless you and your chickens!have a great day!

but it was a beautiful day on the lake.
I guess the fish were taking a holiday too.
Wish you all a great day.

I hope everyone had a a pleasant weekend. I spent Easter mopping up a flood in the basement from a burst pipe. I hooked up my hose to the outside faucet - figured it would be nice not to have to carry buckets to the chickens, now that spring is here. When I came back to turn it off, I noticed water running out from underneath the clapboards. Oh, what a mess! I called the plumber this morning - it will probably cost a fortune. I've never had a broken pipe before, so I am trying to look at it as a fascinating experience that shouldn't be missed.

On the good side, I candled 84 eggs tonight and all but five have developing embryos.
clap.gif
but, that's as far I go - I never count my chickens before they're hatched.

Today I'm planning on organizing my coop. You see I have three broody hens. I don't know how many eggs are under them because all of my other girls keep laying their eggs around broody hens. The other night I put fencing around the broodies but it's not good enough. So today I'm seriously going to change that and re-arrange the coop.
fl.gif
I hope it works! I can't sell any eggs right now because of the coop chaos, and my orders are backing up.

Such good hens, but they're just confused right now. I've never had broodies before, and they're determined to be momma hens!

Last night my drunk neighbor called the cops, and my DH was out in the yard talking to the cops at 3 AM. Apparently another neighbors motion detector light was dying and it was flashing like a strobe light. This must've confused drunk neighbor so he called the cops, and the cops ended up in our yard talking about our chickens. Then they wanted to know why our yard was all dug up - we must be the only people in town that garden. It just feels like an invasion of privacy to me. I'm just so glad our roosters didn't crow, because our head rooster definitely crows when strangers are around. He's actually a very good "watch roo"! Apparently he knew to keep his beak shut!

I have a few phone calls to make today, as well.

I sent an email to our county's 4-H contact to volunteer for a Poultry program - since our county doesn't have a poultry program. I finally heard back from the lady yesterday and if all goes well I will be setting up the poultry program for Schuylkill County and be a "Poultry Leader"! I am so excited!

I hope everyone has a great day today!

I feel so SPECIAL when I get to post to this topic . . . . . .

Most days I am in the classroom and do not get a chance to post.

However, we have been out on Spring Break this week. This is the first day that I haven't had a billion things that I have had to hustle to get done.

I am enjoying my second cp of coffee, watching the weather forecast, and checking what's happening on BYC.

It is BEAUTIFUL outside. I have a refinishing project I am going to finish up today

Besides the 79 eggs still left in the incubator, I have a broody sitting on seven eggs. I came home today to another hen deciding she wanted babies, too. "Oh no, you don't," I said, and I kicked her out of the comfy spot she was making for herself. I am way over board, as it is. I thought that more than half of the incubator eggs would be duds, because my rooster is a first timer. Well, the lesson is, never underestimate a teenager.

We had a few absolutely beautiful days - those that remind you why you live here. Today it started to rain and get cold which will last through the weekend. I'll be fixing up the old coop as a brooder, just in case those eggs really do hatch.

Good morning! I'm up early because I work today, but decided to "stop by" before heading out! It's definitely a chilly morning here compared to what we had last week. According to the news it's 37 degrees outside - the other day we hit 90 degrees in the afternoon. I guess we're back to our regular seasonal/early spring weather!

So, I'm hoping to have a fairly calm day at work today, since I work as a Psychiatric Nurse. I love my job, but some days are, uh... interesting! Tonight I'm going to the auction again, but the only thing I really am interested in buying are fertile eggs. Well, at least right now. I just like to go and watch to see what's being sold.

I hope everybody has a fantastic Saturday!
