Coffee's ready...

Morning folks, have to get to bed earlier and get up earlier. Truth is the skeeters are so bad and discouraging that ya can't work more than a couple of hours outside.

Ace: most folks only see the romantic side of any of this type of stuff. They don't see the work.

oesdog: We've experienced that here all the time. They keep building houseing tracks farther and farther away from the city and then complain about the smell or noise whatever. Politicians just don't get it. Also to many farmers selling the farm. We have trusts over here in some places to protect the land.

Hey Karl: I got some empty beds think it's to early to plant some Swiss Chard? If I do and when it starts to come up should I put some straw around it's feet? Mostly for the chickens I don't think anyone here will eat it.

Sissy, Scoop and Tyran just want to say hey. Anyone I missed you too. Page only shows so many postings.

Well coffees gone guess this means I have to go to work.

Have a nice day

A belated Good Morning to you all. I barely got a half a cup down before going outside to finish the coop addition with the help of my BF, as he is not working today. It's done now and the EE babies are in it, taking a break from free ranging. I will miss their little night-time noises, but I will not miss the mess they make in my laundry room. The Barred Rock is running back and forth along the sides of it squawking at them. I'm glad I decided not to try putting them in with the big girls yet.

GOOD NEWS! I looked up the ordinances myself last night, and there are NO LIMITS on how many chicken I can have!! Yipee!!! I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing - I'll have to work harder to keep myself in check, now! It did say the coop has to be at least 100 feet from the neighbor's house, unless you have permission. I measured it and it is 60 feet from either neighbor. I don't know of many yards around here that could accomodate that law! Mine is one of the biggest one's I've seen in this city! I don't know why I just took the word of the pet store clerk, seeing as how they didn't even know what breeds of chicks they had! Now I know. Come spring, I may be purchasing an incubator. As long as my nosy neighbor doesn't come measure the yard, I think I'm okay. I feel better now.

Anyway, have a good rest of the day!

Here Iam late for coffee but a nice cool glass of tea is just fine.
Karl, when I say brooder in the pantry
you should see my pantry one side is laundry rm.

Morning People,
I am having a slow moving morning this morning. Coffee is on, new batch of "India Monsoon Malabar"

Weather: Sunny, mid low to mid 80's, no rain.

I think I might have enough tomatoes to start making some sauce today. I am having a "pickle beets" day with the mother-in-law next Friday. I found a new recipe for granola. I made 5 - 6 cups, and it was gone in 2 days.

karl: One thing my coffee has never been called "thin". It's more in line like rot gut, teeth stripper, cup of jitters, hair removal.

Everyone enjoy

Kaj

My morning is all but over now as its 12.15 here. Was supposed to get up early and take a long drive down the North coast today but DH and I are well exhausted. DS had us up every hour in the night and we just don;t have it in us to much today. Thankfully he is back at adult centre Monday! Then maybe I might get out for morning coffee!!!!!!

So I am not going far. Doubtless I will have to get Dd later as she seems to be perminantly camped at our house in the run up to the birth of her baby.

I soooooooo wish I was not so tired - could do with a few cups of your strong stand the spoon up in coffee today!!!!!!

Not sure what is going on in my yard - my grapes don;t seem to be getting any bigger and the Rhubarb is kind of looking a bit yucky since I took some stalks last week? The only thing that seems to be doing ok right now is Zuccinis! - I have a mind to try again at the Jam making once I get myself going to pick some fruit? Anyhow chickens are happy and not making a racket so that is good. Drumstick seems to have a few more feathers since I put vitamins in their water. She doesn;t seem as dozy either which is good. I really could do with a few ideas on how to stop these wild birds getting into the coop run and garden and distroying everything! Any ideas? I mean I like wild birds but we have well at least 200 hanging about in shifts waiting fed? It is a wonder the hens get any food at all!

Anyhow I better away to see what I can be at folks
Thanks for coffee and chat.

Good Morning!
Kaj - your coffee sounds just like mine. Mmmmm. Good stuff. I went out last night and stayed up passed my bedtime, which we don't do all that often. It was fun, but now I'm trying to revive myself with a good strong cup of joe.
Oesdog - Granola is like Muslex. I'm not sure what the differences is, but I think Granola has more nuts in it. You can eat it with just milk, or sprinkle it on yogurt.

Yesterday I started to get really concerned that my White Leghorn was eggbound. She was in the nest box all evening the day before, then back in there in the morning, and still there when I got home after midnight last night. I had put some water in there for her. She would make a growling noise at me whenever I got close, but I decided it was time to see what was going on. I picked her up a bit and she was sitting on all three eggs, plus the golf ball. A 25 week old White Leghorn seems to be broody!! WHAT!

She is up and about this morning, but I have the feeling she will be back in the next box all day. How did I get a broody leghorn- who is way too young? Does it have soemthing to do with the fact that I work with teen mothers? It rubbed off on her somehow......

Afternoon folks,
Paul came today to work for me in the yard. I slept till after nine. Sat. My back hurt so I wanted to rest.
I've got him moving dirt to cover the leach field better. So I don't have a pond. Not sure who installed it but gotta try this before calling the professionals.

oesdog: hope your son is ok. If you'd like to pm me your address I can send you some Granola. No big deal to send it. Hey! we're practically family.

Karl: Swiss chard is a fall/early spring plant but if it grows the chicks won't mind. The beds are empty so i guess it can't hurt.

Chics: They can go anytime I guess. I had some young ones go first year. Right now I got a BO that I think/kinda hope is. Gonna put some Del eggs under her if she is.

Well DW is home gotta go.

ta, ta for now

I would kill for a broody leghorn - - - I have 2 leghorns and am thinking about getting another couple - - - I love their constant, faithful egg production. I love the LARGE EGGS. My poor girls are having an awful time with the 100 F weather, but still lay faithfully. I own other breeds because I NEED a Broody. I got my girls in Dec 2010 and so far have only had 2 of the 9 hens go broody. TOP that off, they each went broody ONLY ONCE. How am I ever going to HATCH anything if they don't go broody ? ? ? ??

I spent the ENTIRE DAY working in my garden. I have weeded, trimmed, shoveled, leveled, and planted until I am so sore I can't not stand up straight !

THIS IS WHAT I DO FOR FUN - - - How twisted is it ? ? ? ?

So, tomorrow I have more planting to do and fertilizing. Then I will sit back and wait for the harvest. This year, I want to try canning.
