Enough whining. . . . I went to the garden shed today and brought back seeds and small trays to start some new seedlings in . . . . Maybe the spring will be kind to be this NEW year - - - Lord knows it wasn't this past Spring

When this happens just toss an old sheet or light blanket over them, this will help them through the night. Worked for Sammi Smith. (get it?)

Well it ain't time for coffee yet... although I gotta remember to set it up tonight for the morning. I'm just up waiting for the buffalo stew meat to thaw enough to throw it in the crockpot. Set it on low all night and tomorrow, it'll be nice and tender. I do so much better on things like that the night before. I really shouldn't be allowed near any sharp implements first thing in the morning - and buffalo needs to cook low and slow so I'd need to start it way too early.

Anyways - just hanging out, checking in with my peeps now. Sorry to hear about your garden math ace! Like Rancher sez - next time it's supposed to chill out, toss em a blankie.

Morning People,

Chilly this morning, 10degs going up to the mid 30's today.

rancher hicks: There is a "Garlic Festival" at our "sister" town across the river. We purchase a few braids there, sample a few food items, and just have a over all good time. I'll be expanding our herb garden this summer. You can never have enough.

annaraven: I can't remember the last time I had Buffalo.

math ace: Blankets/sheets work if you have enough. Another trick I've heard (never tried it), is if you have a frost, hose the plants down before the sun comes up. Around here, I have to wait till the last full moon in May before I can plant tomatoes etc.

chics in the sun: We are a bit to old for winter camping unless we have to. Which I really hope we don't. I can remember onetime, we were camping with just the oldest rat, and were hit with a cold snap. Everything was frozen, water, eggs, us... Well the better half bundled her up so much, that when I gave her a piece of bacon, she couldn't bend her arm to get it to her mouth. She was a little over 2yrs.

osedog: How old is omlet? We have 2 rooster, 1 with each flock.

Ok everyone, when you have more then 1 chicken, what do you call it? A flock, herd, gaggle, to many, not enough?

Good morning chicken wranglers
heffer is back in the barn.Rancher it is 50 already and headed to 60 for a high today. The ground in my pasture is the consistancy of chicken soup. Prepare yourself for the thaw. Iam relieved that is going to drop to 23 tonight so i will be able to walk and drive out in the pasture.
oesdog that waslicked my fingers not liked! the little heffer is so cute she follows me everywhere and knows that the other cows cannot bully her when I'm around.
Even my crazy heffer is settling down and getting gentled because I feed her sweet hay from my hand.By the way I feed the cows on $.60 a day and my chickens cost about $9.00 a day to feed. There are a lot more chickens but since I only sell about $35.00 in eggs a month it isn't proffit able yet. Perhaps when all 100 start to lay it will get better.

I thought you asked how old Omlet was?????? I only answered that question? She/he was hatched 7th June - She / he is still being just that?
She / he was squatting this morning and has sat on the nest a few times but NO eggs. She/He also was Mounted a few times and Big red chased her round the yard this morning. He is well - very um err naughty!! Eveytime I see him hes on top of another hen!!!!

Anyhow Omlet deffinately has He feathers but a she front end and legs squat body and fat bum! But male feathes on the back end and deffinate long feathers growing through??????? She / He also puts the heckle feathers up and does the Rooster thing???? MAybe she/ he is a She /he???? Can they be gender mixed???? I know female hens can turn into roos if their Overies are damaged???? I saw this on a chicken documentry programme a while ago.

Anyhow better away as I have a bundle of stuff to sort now that Christmas is done. We have a new year party tomorrow and I guess that will mark the end of the Holidays.
Then I guess its down with the decorations etc and that means DUSTING!!!!!!!!
