The carrots are I grow are the short ones 3 - 5" x 1 - 1 1/4" top dia. What I enjoy about them, is they don't get that hard wood core. I forget what the name of them are. I use to use the brown bag to dry my herbs, but....... I now use a dehydrator. Herbs I dry to brittle/crunchy and place in jars, excess goes into the freezer. Fruit and veggies, until they are like chewy. The herbs and fruit, we use as is, but the veggies should be soaked or cooked in stews/soups. I have never used a freeze cube for herbs. For me, it all takes practice.Que, I just never was good at growing carrots. I've got Scarlet runners planted for aesthetics. They just look nice and are fast growing. I've grown beans but I'm not big on them. My garden is a disaster this year.
I've hung herbs to dry but they never got used and I just don't know how to deal with them. When do I chop them up and put them in a jar? After one week, a month? Too much to figure out. I bought DW one of those sets to freeze cubes of herbs but she's not going to do it I'm sure. I'll have to do it myself.
This fall I have to build a few more beds.......
I do all sorts of things with kale. For a additive, I add it to soups, stews, sauces, zit, lasagna, etc., raw in salads ( you have to take the midribs and lateral veins out.) or sauteed ( one of my favorites - garlic, sage, salt (if you can sneak it) rosemary, butter or oil, cook the herbs & spices for a while (low heat), then add the kale and cook till changes color, serve hot)OK Que and Rancher. What do you do with kale? We boil/steam sometimes with a little bacon and nutmeg, but other than boiled what do you do with kale?
I thought I was going to luck out this year and not get stung......... WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found a ground hive in the compost pile. How can you say, they weren't to happy getting turned.
Enjoy your day.....
