Morning all. Nice sleeping in with the sound of "Grandma - Grandpa is it time to get up yet". Day of big storm Dr. called at 5:45 to say appt. cancelled but that was OK because GD had us awake at 5:30. Beautiful sunny day today. Supposed to be 45° and is 36 now. I have plastic corrugated roofing over coop and run with one of those big outdoor thermometers on the hardware cloth by the top. It read 70°

yesterday with the actual being close to 32.

Well keep warm and dry all.

Good morning chicken wranglers
I just got back from the dentist. had a root canal. Was a good time! Better than the tooth ache I had a couple of weeks ago!
Warm here over the week end 60 degrees what a good Saturday. Had a new calf Tues day and it was only 6degrees out I had to set up a stall for the calf and the momma. by the time I got the calf all the amniotic fluid was ice on the poor thing. I took he and his momma in the barn and set them up on straw and he is thriving. According to the weather forecasts we should not see any more weather in the minus's hard to believe because one week ago today it was 2 below when I got up. Too cool to brood yet but I will do meaties and some more pullets soon.
God Bless!

Morning all,

Warmer here but not enough to suit me.

Ordered some Delaware hatching eggs to hatch when this lot is done. Anyone here hatch eggs? Order hatching eggs? Keep a special breed?

Have been reading about Beans in the Heiroom magazine. Author traveled around the world to collect beans. Very interesting as I'm looking into storing beans. I have to learn to dry them in quantities first. Does anyone here dry and store their own beans for home use? Vehve the article made me think of you as he mentioned Austria. How far from Austria are you?

Well take care will look in later,

rancher

Rancher, it's about 800 miles south. Pretty different climate, but beans do well in our yard. Got a bunch of them last year, hoping for a lot this year too. I like beans with bacon bits, or with dijon mustard and mayo. Great side dish.

We have friends who've converted to being Vegan so I'm interested in stuff like bean now. You have to share your recipe. We do have them to dinner now and again. The wife cooks accordingly.

Do you dry and save beans or just eat them when in season from your garden and buy when they're not?

We managed to eat everything we grew, but if I have any extra this year, I might freeze them.

Neither of those recipes are vegan friendly though, vegans for some reason tend to frown upon bacon, and mayo is a bit of an issue too due to the egg in it. But to half a pound of beans I'd just add maybe 3-4 ounces of bacon bits fried crispy, or about one or two table spoons of mayo and a teaspoon of Dijon mustard.
