Coffee's ready...

I've had no rain for weeks. . . . You could try pushing some of that rain to the north east of Florida so that I could get some. SHARE a little. Sections of my garden are Brown and Not Looking Good at all.

We are expecting dry and hot for the next week too.

Good Morning everyone,

This heat is so bad that I am leaving the house without coffee. I am getting up early so that we can work outside for a hour or two before the heat kicks in. Then, we return to the house have breakfast and coffee. We hide in the house until dusk and then proceed to work outside for another hour or two.

Karl,

I've got a young roo who needs to figure it out or I'll need to order some saddles for my girls. So, I guess I'll be adding to those numbers you saw on the Wall Street Post. I saw the cover page for the organic gardening magazine was Backyard chicken farmers. That was either this or last month's edition.

100 Chickens - - - are you sure ? ? I currently have 15 and think I would max out around 25. We are having some fill dirt brought in today so that we can raise up the area where I would like to set up some broody / mating pens. That is where our extra 10 would come in.

Rain? What exactly is rain? I've heard of it on the local news but I don't think I've even seen it, at least not in the past month or so. It's been miserably hot and humid here in central NC. Nothing falling from the sky except for hot, hot sunshine for three weeks now. I've got cracks big enough to stick my fingers down into in the ground all around my coop and garden area. Whatever rain is I wish I could get a bucket or two of it...

x2 and the weather man says there is NONE in my future either.

Guess I am skipping the morning coffee tomorrow to get out and do some chores outdoors before nature's oven gets turned on !

Well, I would go out and work this morning but everything is all burned up. The grass is dead. The garden has withered. The only thing I can do is to hand water the apple trees and blueberry bushes so they don't die. But the okra is thriving in this heat. All around us we see the farmers' corn fields and they're pitiful with the corn that was just a few weeks ago growing and lush green now turning yellow and shriveling up. I think if I was them I'd go ahead while there's still some green to it and cut it for silage and at least get something out of it. Next week is supposed to be a little cooler here in central NC with the temps falling back in the mid to high 80's with popup thunderstorms predicted. It sure will be be welcome whatever relief we get.

Good morning chicken wranglers
J.W.,Math ace I'm truly sorry to hear about your drought problems. We "and I am not gloating " have had soo much rain in the last 2 summers that the outlook for the corn is down from flooding.
I'm gonna go for the whole flock thing . WE've been running about 70 birds between meat and layers for a year and with the kids helping out it is not too bad.on the work load end.
Sis, kis ,tono, scoop, chics i.t.s.,. Missin you guys on the forum. Drop us a line.

Still hot here, too. Looks like we got a sprinkle during the night, but it's virtually useless. So far the chickens are dealing with it ok, they just sit in cool dirt til the sun goes behind the trees, then they walk around the yard in the shade. It shouldn't go above 90 today so I'm planning on doing a batch of blueberry jam.

Good morning!
The weather is great here! No wind, nice bright and sunny. Couldn't ask for better weather then that!

I plan on spending lots of time outside today. Either playing with the dogs, or being with the chickens.

Good Morning by fellow BYC members,

I am on my second cup of coffee and READY to start the day. OMG it was sooo hot yesterday. It was over 104 F.
Today, it is suppose to be cooler - - - only 94 F.

Yesterday, I got almost NO Eggs. . . . I am loving my leghorns more and more everyday.
Those girls lay in the cold, in the rain, and in the killer heat. My Marans have are laying NOTHING now. It is just too hot for them !
