In your defence I did ask didn;t I???? - I know fine rightly I am doing far too much and I don;t want to - I value having the space being "older" brings. I don;t need to be looking after someone elses baby 4/5 days a week and then 2 nights???????? Its madness. But I love jess and don;t want to see her just dumped with anyone. I am hoping Dotty learns to love her as much /more than I do.

Oesdog - Thanks for the advice guys.

Tartanick - I forgot to answer your question - we spent one night in Edinburgh (couldn't afford more than one night, really), loved it! We then spent a few nights in Villa Cree and Newton Stewart before taking the ferry to Northern Ireland. We explored Galloway park, which was amazing. One day I plan on going back to spend an entire vaccation there, not just a few days. I'd like to go to the Highlands and maybe one of the islands off the coast.

Math Ace - I'm noticing that the seeds planted in the half of the garden that gets the most sun are coming up slower than the side that is shaded. (I planned for full sun most of the day, until my neighbors bought the lot next to mine and put up a house three times the size of the one that was there before, thereby shading my garden. Which actually turned out to be a good thing).

Thanks for the thoughts and help - I am so sorry that you lost your husband and were left like you were it must have been so very hard for you. I had no help at all even though my parents could have they wouldn;t and I wouldn;t have asked. DHs mom had cancer and I nursed her even though I had 4 kids by the time I was 21yrs old. She died when Dotty was 6 months old then my father in law went to pieces and had one stroke after another. So no help there. They are both gone now. Both my twins are handicapped so its been a long hard struggle. I want to do the best I can for Dotty of course. I certainly don;t want to leave her without help. I wouldn;t let her mind Danny while pregnant and not until she has the 6 weeks check as she has a heart condition and Danny can be volatile. I couldn;t let her be hurt by him and of course the baby. Dott says she will take Danny every other weekend so I hope that works out. I am exhausted I can tell you.

Anyhow thanks much

Well you guys - as always I am the first up for coffee! Had about 20 cups !!!!!!!! Jessica was up near all night.

Anyhow I wanted to share something brillient this morning. - As some of you know I have been trying so hard to keep my wee chick alive. I have scowered the net for answers and I have Emailed sooooooooooooooooooooo many folk. I took 2 of my birds to the Vet a few weeks ago and basically the fellow grabed Omlet up and felt her breast bone and told me to Neck her because she had a curved breast bone and it would only get worse. This would mean she wouldn't walk etc. So take her home and kill her. He charged me £25 for that gem of information!

Then he took my Blue up and said : Oh a leghorn - So I said NO a Legbar he replied with a quizical look no a Leghorn so I said actually NO a Legbar? He obviously knew little about Chickens!!!!! Well my Cream Legbar does have Leghorn in it I guess but I wasn;t going to tell him that. Anyhow I digress - So I brought them both home and DH and I took a long look at poor Omlet and decided we couldn;t kill something just because it was disabled! So I was trying everything I could to find out about the condition and what to do???? I mean the Vet was NOT helpful - As usual when it comes to chirckens! I eventually contacted the Avian society and they were great and gave me loads of help and advice. Anyhow I am pleased to say the chicken that is supposed to be useless and no good for anything is today - this very moment running round the pen in the back yard playing with Blue and chasing food scraps!!!!!!! ON HER FEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah I did have a few discussions with God along the way about how I needed this chicken more than he does!!!!! So I just wanted to share this as VETS are not always the fount of wisdom we assume them to be and especially with our beloved chickens. - She lives !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's so good to hear, Oesdog!! I will keep that in mind if I need help with a chicken sometime. We have a great bird rescue place on the beach that I bet would be helpful!

Well, I made it to Pilates class and ran a few errands. Now I have to get cleaned up and take my son to my SIL's house for a sleepover while BF and I go out to celebrate a friend's birthday. Then tomorrow we are going scuba diving to look for shark teeth. It's a lot of fun, and very peaceful.

I am worried again about my one EE baby being a rooster. What do you guys think?:

OSEDOG - - GREAT job! Hey, I can't believe you didn't tell us what you had to do to make her all better. It had to be particularly hurtful for your vet to suggest what he did after everything you have been through in your home life. How are you doing ? ? How are you surviving the night-time baby sitting?

CHICKS - - Can you get a picture of the saddle area in better lighting ? How old is the EE ?

Sorry chicks - I have no Idea about sexing chickens ???????? I mean in our house they either will lay eggs or crow. DH says if they go Cock - it wont go doooooo! Poor things!!! We have to hide Blue because we are not allowed Roos and we think Duck and Nugget are and Blue deffinately is - Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!! I must hide blue because he has the blue egg gene and Duck and Nugget are from our own hens so I don;t really want to put them to each other!!!!

Anyhow I survived last night just about as Jessica was up all night for hours. Were not happy that Jessica has been well dumped here really. I mean they could have had her last night because they were not going out and they could have taken her shopping with them this morning. They do have a car!!!!!! I mean I think back to when I was that age and I had to - well you would laugh. I had Dotty in a sling round my neck, Danny and Ben in the double buggy - which are a nightmare to use and I had Michael tied to one handle and the Dog to the other. Then I had to ballance shopping bags either side as well. DH was at work he had to earn money and couldn;t be there to help me and I had no car at all!!!!!!! Anyhow I still have Jessica which I think is really bad for her as she will get confussed as to who is her mum and dad.

Omlet - Oh that blasted Vet is such a fool. - If I had listened to him I would have killed my good little friend for nothing!!! Whot an idiot and there must be other Vets doing this to chicken owners!!!! I litterally at one stage was Dropper feeding her water with Vitamins in every hour. I went back to basics again and fed her baby rice. It was all she would eat when she was hatched out. So it was baby rice and vitamin water. Then I gave her yogurt in the rice and gradually mixed egg with it. Then somefolks here sugested I put her on Layers as it apparently has more culciumn and Vit B1 and Vit B2. I looked it up on the Avian site and it said bascally to try to correct the curve you have to slow the growth down and get those things increased. Apparently they need less protein so I dumped the Egg/ yogurt mix and started on mushy layers. I am not saying she is Fixed by any means. Oh yeah and I was so despirate I actually started looking up chicken Poo sites - that is when you realise you truely have LOST IT!!!! Omlets Poo is really watery and she seems to be drinking buckets. But she is out in the garage so isn;t in the house anymore and so can;t be too hot. Also I regularly see her eating now on her own and feel her crop and its full so the two reasons why she should have watery poo - dont; seem to be there so I may be missing something important. Anyhow we are now putting her outside in the daytime so she can get the air round her. Blue will not leave her at all. It is funny because he stands over her if she lays down and she curls up under him at night. I simply cannot part them unless I really have to DH is going to try to hide them behind the shed!!! I have been putting Omlet out on the soil to use her feet more to do what chickens do. She is now finding worms and chasing Blue for them which is great. Her toes are a bit crucked and she still falls sometimes so I am massaging them everyday and doing excersizes like I did with my disabled son. This last few days she is begining to get stronger in the legs and there is resistance when I push on them now that is soooo good to feel I can tell you. I have sadly cut her wing feathers on one side. She had dragged the wing trying to use it to ballance and the feathers were troden on by blue and pulled out or brocken so I have cut then off and evened them out so she had a make over today. Things I am still worried about are the watery Poo????????? And that she is sneezing and I worry if I out her out too soon or if she just got earth up her nose when she was trying to get worms???? - Any ideas??????

I better go as Jessica is starting and I need to give her the rest of the bottle before bed.

I am shattered. - Yes it was hard with the VET but I am not going to give up on Omlet - DH and I hatched her by hand on day 28!!!! She should be dead long ago but she is our little trooper and I love her. I would be soooo upset if I lost her now after all this. If she recovers and walks ok I can breed her to Blue- I am hoping the Vet was wrong about the breast bone and it being something that may pass down. I mean he was a bit of a burk! We will see. Anyhow Omlet has loads of folk praying for her and thats gotta be better than any Vet!
