My FBCM, have had a horrid time with this heat. Their laying has slacked to 1 or 2 eggs a day from 4 hens. During the 90 - 100 temps I only got 1 egg a day from 4 hens. Whereas my two EE's laid almost every day - - - 2 eggs from 2 birds.

It is starting to cool off, so my guess is you will have both laying soooon.

Mable and Betty are 18 weeks - I wonder which of these birds will lay first??? It will be fun to see. Omlet is 17 weeks but I doubt if she will lay for many weeks yet. Keep us posted to see which lays first???? It will be kind of fun - to see who's lays first.

Well Jessica is finally away and to be honest I am glad but at the sametime I miss her like crazy. It is very hard as when Dot comes I have to take a back seat and NOT do anything. I make myself busy in the kitchen so she has to care for baby. I find I odly ache for her though which is wrong and sad really. Steep learning curve being a granny not a mummy!

Chicks - hope you enjoyed your time at the beach. I am lucky as I don;t have to drive to one. We can see the sea from the house and its less than 5 mins walk to the beach from here. Though I hardly have chance to go these days.

Actually, I just figured out she is only 15 or 16 weeks old, if that makes any difference. The guy at the feed store wasn't sure how old the chicks were when BF bought her.

I would love to live so close to the sea, Oesdog. Take some time out and walk down there the appreciate it. We had a good dive, but some of the time the visibility was really bad and not being able to see what is around you while you are underwater is just spooky. Don't like that at all! Only found a few small shark teeth and some nice shells. But anyday at the beach or in the water is a good day.

This is NORMAL - - -it means you have bonded with the baby. This is how your Dd should be feeling when she drops her off on your doorstep. Stepping back and doing nothing is hard, but necessary. It is almost like watching our chickens establish the pecking order. . . We know it has to happen, we know it will happen quicker if we don't intervene, and it is hard to watch. WHY watch then - - -because every once in a while, we have to intervine for the weakest ones . . .

I live an HOUR from the beach. It has to be a really STRONG URGE for me to make that trip. We usually make sure our camping vacations happen near water . . . LOVE to fish, LOVE to swim, Don't LOVE hurricanes and that is why we moved inland about 7 years ago !

Chicks Hi glad your on!!!! I would love to go look at suff underwater Chicks but the water here is not as clear or clean as yours over there I think?
Oh well so your chicks are a little young but hay we can always see if they will lay before little Omlet????? If she lives long enough to actually produce an egg????

The sea is lovely here and great in the winter storms. I love it as everytime I drive up the coast it is different. The colours in the ocean are wonderful. I don;t get far these days as Dh is always needing me to be close. Since he has the heart issues and all he panics if I leave him too long and I mean sometimes its simply to put the washing on the line!!!! He can;t walk too far these days so we sometimes take a short dander for our Dogs sake or just take a drive. It is a wonderful theropy "nature".

Math Ace I would put your quote in too but I don;t know how now I am already writting this??? I am so bad at this!!!!!!
Yeah I have bonded with the baby. - About the time my daughter was shouting at the Dr who gave her the positive pregnancy result!!! I remember her yelling that he was lieing to her - so he turned to her and laughed at her and said kid your on a roller coaster of your own distruction! I don;t think he was very helpful!!!
Anyhow yeap I've been a sucker eversince!!!!!! I even stayed up all night in the hospital for her to be born. I couldn;t leave Dotty as her BF is a bit of a kid and if he baled I needed to be there. Anyhow I do stand back and when Dot says mummy can you feed her or take her a moment or change her little bum. I ask why and if its not a good reason I tell her to go do it herself. As I am busy with this or that right now.

We don;t have hurricanes here just very strong winds which tend to take the glass from the green house at least once a year. I love the coast thats why we moved here but I want more land for piggys and goats too! I also want meat birds - yeah I know what your gonna say I can't even let go of Omlet - but shes a pet!!!!

Wish I was closer to you guys it would be lovely to meet up and have a real coffee with you !!!!!!!!

Oesdog - typical I post this and both of you are now OFF LINE Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Good morning People,

Coffee's hot, but.... it's called "Bishop Blend" and I just can't get a good cup from it. A very strong blend, like a espresso.

Weather: RAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We finally are getting a good soaking. 2 - 3 days of rain. We are in day 2. It's a nice easy rain, no run off.

oesdog: Good to hear about Omlet. I hate to say it, but every time I see your birds name of Omlet, I my gut rumbles. I love omelets (white American cheese and the hot, dried, flaked red peppers).

We haven't been to the ocean in years. We are planning on going back to Nova Scotia in a few years. There are places up there were you can walk the ridge line on the mountains. One foot on one side, the other foot on the other side. The Hudson River is 4 miles from us, but you wouldn't want to go swimming in it. We do fish for strip bass during the spring season.

Thanks for the fried green tomatoes, we'll be trying them this week. I also tried the kaiser(sp) rolls from the recipe that's on BYC. I would highly recommend them. 14 gone before I knew what happen. I have another batch in the fridge to make this morning.

I think that because I have been wearing long pants the last couple of days, they think I am going to start the wood stove.....

Enjoy the day.

Kaj

Morning everyone, although its afternoon here!!!

I have been outa bed for 5 1/2 hours already, done all my housework and washing.

Today I am having crunchy nut cornflakes with my coffee (other breakfast was such a long time ago!)

Just finishing it now and going outside to clean the coops, its not warm, in fact my fingers are freezing!! All you people living in hot sunny places are soooooo lucky!!

Have a nice day everyone!

Nik
P.S I love this forum xx

We have been up for a good while and have been out to Dds - got our granddaughter and took her to GP. She had a rash and cause she is only 6 weeks old we decided to get it looked at. Then Dh took us all for Lunch - we had lovely Sweet Potato soup and wheaten then Chicken and salad and chips! Now we are back and its time to have a sleep I think before baby wakes for her feed.
We too have to clean out the coops - but its freezing here too - I conclude that this Island is too close to Scotland and therefor it must be your fault its cold!!!!!! Tartannik!!!!!

Wonder if I could get it moved closer to the US and all that Sun they keep COMPLAINING ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!
