CHICKS - -- -

My daughter is on year three with the oboe and on the first year with the saxophone.

I don't have anything good enough to enter. It scares me to enter anything due to potential diseases and pests. If I get enough decent ones out of my recent hatching of 13 marans, I may be interested in showing some next year. . . ..

Is the lakeland show the one in January ? ? ?

You remind me of my wee dotty - she so wanted to learn how to play Trumpet. In her primary school they tought music and they used to have all the instruments there. There was about 4 or 5 Trumpets but each year for some reason even though she asked and asked they all seemed to be given to the other kids. Then one year she came home in floods of tears because yet again for the third time she had been passed over. - Her Daddy imediately put her in the car and took her to the music shop - they came home with a brand new £500 Trumpet!!!!!! - Later that week she had gone back to the music teacher with her daddy and the lady explained once again that she couldn;t give Dotty Trumpet lessons that year because they were all booked out. Her Daddy took the brand new instrument out of his bag plonked it on the desk infront of her and said thats no problem My daughter has brought her own now teach her!!!! Turned out that they had decided she couldn;t play trumpet because she had Asthma and they wouldn;t even give her the chance!!!! After that - She played the Trumpet right up until she left school. Then she had dental work done and couldn;t play for a year and it kind of took it from her really. She still has it though in her house and takes it out on occations. Her Asthma improved greatly with all the breathing excersize - it was the best thing we did!!!!! No she never won a prize but the look on that teachers face when Dotty had her own instrument would have been worth it all!!!!!!!!!!!

It's actually in Lake City - my mistake, and yes, it is in January. People on the Marans thread said Madelide was really nice, but I'd have to look at the standards. Whatever those are.

Good story, Oesdog!

Guess what I have, no coffee but ICE TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

osedog: "quercus21 - regarding grand parenting - you are going to need all the training you can get. " I have it already planned out. The biggest bowl I can find, fill it with sugar and sugar by products, let'em feast on it, then and send'em home. For a "special" treat, the nosiest toy I can find. I was already warned: "Don't scare her"
Good one, I bet Dotty was standing tall with the Dad confronting the teacher.

chicks in the sun: She (the old rat) also plays the flute, clarinet, dulcimer and my favorite, the tin whistle. Her primary is the bassoon. She has been playing it for close to 17yrs (that makes me feel old, thank you very much) of which 8+ yrs of college. Up on the farm, people would stop just to listen to her play the tin whistle. She'd go down to the stream, in a little valley and play. You couldn't see her, but you could hear her. She has begrudging agreed to play it at my funeral. She has a real fancy one from Ireland.

math ace: what were the results of both your kids projects? I am interested in their conclusions?

Good morning/afternoon people;

Coffee is on. trying to figure out what to have for breakfast.

Weather: outside-52degs & raining, today-mid 60's & rain, inside 62deg and clear. We had a good light show(lighting storm) last night, it rocked the house.

Bread day today, some shop time, marinating a leg of lamb for supper tonight.

Enjoy the day

That sounds just beautiful, Queercus!
Your grandparenting plan sounds like you took it from the same play-book my in-laws must use!! My son threw up on the way home from their house once, and I swear it was from too much sugar. And the noise level of the toys they buy!!

Nice day out, got some rain last night so that was good.

I'm getting a bit worried about my Marans picking on everyone, especially the babies. I'm not sure they are getting enough to eat. Maybe I'll isolate her in the brooder during the day tomorrow. The EE's and the babies have all taken to hanging out up in the roost area all day just to stay away from her. Maybe I'll work on the coop expansion sooner than I planed and see if that helps.

Well, gotta get to a meeting. But then I have a free 15 minute massage!

Have a nice day, chicken keepers.

quercus21 - Great grandparenting plan !!!!!! - though it wont work for me as it would seem I am going to be the one doing most of the child care and that would be like shooting myself in the foot wouldn;t it!!!!! But - sure think I am going to wait until I have to give her back to Dotty and then fill Jess up with goodies at the weekends!!!!
The Lamb sounds great ok When can chics and I came round????

Chicks - My Maran is head girl and she keeps all the others in their place. I call her an old Buzzard!!!! Maybe its just the way they are??? When she first came she was really not nice and bit Dh badly on his hand. I actually have grown to love her feisty nature now and she certainly does Lead the girls very well in deed. She is very protective of them. - Hopefully yours will grow into a better girl as time goes on.

We are in the middle of very severe storms again. The Greenhouse got it again and so did the little chicks coop which was totally distroyed last night. I am sooooo very glad that we leave them in a box in the garage to sleep at night because their little day pen was just blown to bits. DH fixed it this morning and it is now in the garage with two very sorry looking critters in it. Better than out in the storms though!!!!!!! The bigger girls are just loving it right now. They are sooo muddy!!!!! It is such a mess in their big girl run. They have been digging like mad for worms too because the rains cause them to come to the surface so now I have pot holes all over the run!!!!!

Anyhow have a nice day - Were battening down the hatches again and riding out more bad weather tonight. ( Managed a big shop today so will keep us going a while incase we get cut off!!!!)
